30 Nov 2015 PUTRAJAYA – UTM received great recognition when being awarded for Six Star Rating in the previous yearly Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) 2014, in addition to, two of its centres of excellence being granted Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE). Both awards were delivered by YB. Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education, in the MyRA 2014 Star Ratings Award ceremony in the Ministry of Higher Education, Putrajaya, today.
The Six Star Rating is a grand success for UTM after the MyRA 2014 audit in May 2015 and as a result, UTM retains its status as Research University. Whereas the two centres of excellence that received the HICoE recognition are Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC) and Institute of Noise and Vibration (IKG).
The three awards were presented by the Minister of Higher Education with UTM being represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof Datuk Ir. Dr Wahid Omar, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation), Prof Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, and Dr. Lim Meng Hee, the representative from IKG. Also attended to receive several other awards were delegates from other public universities.
According to Prof Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, this ratings is a great achievement for UTM after UTM undergo transformation with several initiative to spur the research culture in UTM
Apart from that, the HICoE recognition proved that, the Ministry believe in UTM’s expert to contribute to the Nation via Research, Development, Innovation and Commercialization. With the addition of these two, UTM now has three HICoEs, including the previous recognized Wireless Communication Centre (WCC) in 2014.
